HYDERABAD: Have you ever faced the frustration of being halted for a routine document verification by the traffic police, despite going through the drill just a few days back? If yes is your answer, get yourself a TOFFEE, not of the sweet variety, but a certificate that assures all policemen patrolling the roads under the Cyberabad division that you possess vehicular documents and thus, can be exempted from being stopped for routine document checks. The Total Offence Free Entity (TOFFEE) programme, which has been launched by Microsoft for its Hyderabad employees in the initial stages, works in a two-step process. “Interested employees have to submit relevant documents such as copies of the RC book, lifetime tax receipt (for non-AP registered vehicles), driving licence, insurance certificate and a valid pollution certificate,” said Anumod Thomas, an employee with Microsoft who spearheaded the TOFFEE campaign. And the buck doesn’t stop there. “The vehicles are monitored inside the campus, as well as at various junctions nearby, for over three weeks to ensure they adhere to traffic guidelines provided by the police,” he added. Finally, the programme which started in August, selected a total of 246 employees for the one-year TOFFEE certification. Congratulating the software giant at the programme launch here on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said, “This initiative is mutually beneficial for the police as well as the holder. Now our worries about increasing our patrolling will be lessened and vehicle owners needn’t worry about harassment by the traffic police.”And with the initiative coming as it is from the organised IT sector, the police are hopeful that the project will be a success. For this, Microsoft has ensured technology becomes an integral part of the project by making the entire registration process online and also setting up in place an SMS system.
