KOCHI: In the wake of growing road accidents, the Motor Vehicles Department in the state has come up with a slew of programmes.Awareness programmes with slogan of 'Start Traffic Safety from Houses' will be introduced, Deputy Transport Commissioner Sainuddheen said.According to statistics, nine persons die in road accidents in the state everyday. Many vehicles operating as school vans jam pack nearly 50 children instead of the permissible limit of 15, he said.The state government has designed an awareness campaign 'Road Suraksha Darsanam 20:20', that lasts till 2020. The government has allotted Rs 15.6 crore for starting the programme.Awareness programmes will be conducted for drivers of bus, lorry and other goods carriages and driving school instructors, he said.Efforts have been started to check the accidents on Seaport Airport road.Strict action will be taken against the illegal parking near the Special Economic Zone at Kakkanad.District Collector P I Sheik Pareedh has asked the officials concerned to take measures to ensure that street lights on the road are working properly.The public should make use of the fasttrack counter at the RTO office at Kakkanad, Sainuddheen said.
