VELLORE: District Collector Ajay Yadav on Tuesday urged bankers to provide financial assistance to the beneficiaries of the Central Government’s Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) scheme. Chairing the bankers review meeting on Tuesday at the Collectorate, Yadav said that bankers should extend financial assistances to the beneficiaries of the IAY scheme to construct group houses. “As they are below the poverty line, please do not delay extending financial help to them,” he said. The Collector also advised bankers to equip their establishments with modern gadgets and recruit security personnel to counter the threat of burglary.Zonal Manager of Indian Bank, E Selva Sekaran, said that there were a total of 315 banks in the district. “The total deposit of the banks in the district is Rs 7,577.95 crore and advances is Rs 6,988.29 crore. The ratio of credit and deposits in the banks here is 98 per cent,” he said.Elaborating on the sector-wise allocation made under annual credit plan 2012-13, he said the banks have proposed to disburse Rs 3,070.6 crore under priority sector lending. This is 33 per cent more than last year’s target of Rs 2,315.88 crore. Sekaran said that under the agriculture sector, banks have proposed to disburse Rs 1,617.75 crore, including Rs 1,360.41 crore that was proposed as crop loans for farmers, for the fiscal year as against last year’s target of Rs 1,169.07 crore.He further said that they have allocated Rs 1,077.26 crore for service and other sectors in the current fiscal year, 34 per cent more than the last year’s target of `863.24 crore.The banks, under the financial inclusion plan, would open no-frill accounts to all eligible persons in the villages as per government direction.
