BANGALORE: Total fund disbursement to beneficiary oriented schemes by the state government is expected to scale the Rs 10,000-crore mark for 2012-13.This follows the enhancement of monthly allowance to old-age pensioners and scholarships to children of BC and SC/ST families staying in state-run hostels.According to official sources, the government, apart from increasing the disbursement amount to such schemes, has also increased the number of beneficiaries under its ambit - to around 2 crore, up from 1.81 crore last year. The sources add that the trend has resulted in greater financial demand - than that allotted in the budget; the sources also feel that this would dent the government’s efforts to adhere to the fiscal prudence norms prescribed by the 13th Finance Commission.Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda in his budget proposal for 2012-13 has increased the allocation to Bhagyalakshmi scheme and social security pensions to Rs 500 crore and Rs 2,300 crore respectively. The monthly scholarships for SC/ST and OBC students studying between fifth and seventh standards and eighth to tenth standards have also been increased.
