Twelve people, including a BJP functionary, were arrested while forcibly attempting to install a Vinayaga idol on a private property without seeking permission, here on Friday.
Kanagavalli owns 27.5 cents near Gangaiamman Temple in Lakshmipuram, Kolathur, four of which are being claimed by the temple functionaries. On Friday evening, Tiruvallur BJP secretary Chennai Shiva along with around 20 others went to the disputed site with construction materials to install a Vinayaga idol there.
They allegedly attacked Kanagavalli, a septuagenarian, and inflicted knife injuries on her younger brother. Twelve, including the ring leader, were arrested on Friday night. This was the second such attack on her over the issue. On a previous occasion, another group led by Chennai Shiva had damaged the compound wall and attacked the family. He was arrested but later freed.
Wife Killer Hangs Self After Village Ostracises
A remand prisoner lodged in Puzhal Prison hanged himself on Saturday after his village reportedly ostracised him for allegedly killing his wife.Police said Sadha Rana, a native of Odisha, who was lodged in Puzhal after he was learnt to have killed his wife on Feb 23 this year, was found hanging from a pipe in the motor room of the prison. He used his lungi to hang himself.
Sources said his village had ostracised him since he had murdered his wife and had restricted other villagers and relatives of the accused living in the village from visiting Sadha Rana.
Depressed over this, the accused took this drastic step At 3 pm, an inmate who went into motor room to switch on motor found Rana hanging. Rana was rushed to Stanley Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Man Found Dead
A 40-year-old man was found dead with cut marks on his body in his farm on Saturday morning at Vadamarudhur. Kesavan had gone to release water in his farm land on Friday night. When workers reported for duty, they found Kesavan lying in a pool of blood.
