Big B goes 'phoning a friend' in Pak!
Pak will launch an inquiry into complaints that an entertainment co is using Big B's voice to market a quiz show.

Karachi: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has ordered an inquiry into complaints that an entertainment company has been copying and using the voice of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan to market a quiz show.

An official in the PTA confirmed that an enquiry has been ordered into one of its licensees, Telefun-a call-in Telephonic and Audio Text Entertainment Company was misleading the public by giving the impression it was running a call-in telephonic quiz show hosted by Bachchan on the lines of his popular show Kaun Banega Crorepati.

"We have got complaints that the company is misleading consumers by copying voices of Bollywood actors. The fact is they are charging heavy rates for calling into the show," he said.

He said the flow of complaints had increased in the last two weeks and that an inquiry would be underway soon.

"We are concerned and want to get to the bottom of this," the official said.

However, a caller said that though the company was paying out cash prizes through money orders, but the format of the programme was such that it cost a lot of money to play out the entire quiz show.

"You really don't know when it is the real voice of Amitach Bacchan or when it is someone else faking his voice. But they have very cleverly used his voice bites from the KBC television show and mixed it with the fake voices," the caller said.

When contacted an official of the entertainment company refused to comment.
