BHUBANESWAR: The infamous ‘biker boys’ have re-surfaced. Close to four months after lying low, the Bajaj Pulsar-borne robbers struck on Thursday snatching Rs 3 lakh from a person just outside a private bank located along the busy Janpath. The incident occurred near Shriya Square, barely a few hundred metres away from Kharavela Nagar Police Station, at about 2.20 pm.The complainant, Satya Ranjan Sharma told police that he was returning from HDFC Bank after withdrawing the cash. While he was approaching his car, the bikers appeared from nowhere, snatched the cash wrapped in a plastic bag and sped away. The two robbers were clearly aware of Sharma’s movements. Sharma works as a cashier with New Lakshmi Granites in Mancheswar area of the City.Preliminary investigation suggested, the bikers took a turn at Shriya Square and headed into Kharavela Nagar before vanishing. While the robbers seem to have prior information about Sharma’s movements, they also seemed to know that most of the police arrangement was concentrated at Lower PMG Square where protest rallies and dharnas were being organised in view of the Assembly session in progress.Last week, a similar group had carried out a robbery in an identical fashion in Cuttack’s Yunuspatna area. The Black Pulsar gang had kept the Commissionerate Police on tenterhooks by giving them a slip despite striking at regular intervals earlier this year.
