BJP ridicules Deshmukh on farmer issue
BJP ridiculed Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh for suggesting Art of Living course to help check farmer suicides.

Mumbai: BJP ridiculed Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh for his suggestion that a course like Art of Living could help check farmer suicides in the state on Friday, saying it was an indication of the government's lack of seriousness in the issue.

Reacting to Deshmukh's statement reported in a section of the press that Art of Living classes would help tackle the problems of farmers, state unit president Nitin Gadkari said "If he is suggesting Art of Living classes as a solution to farmer suicides, I can only imagine the extent of seriousness on the issue."

"How can the Chief Minister make such a ridiculous suggestion on such a serious issue?” he added.

On the other hand, MPCC chief Prabha Rau calls an all-party meeting on the issue a `nautanki'. The Congress is unable to rise above petty politics on the issue," Gadkari alleged.

Rau however, reacted strongly to the allegation, saying, "We are also concerned about farmer suicides and the Centre and state have done everything in their power."

"This all party meeting on the 29th (called by the BJP in Nagpur) is merely a publicity stunt to gain some credit for what has already been given. Why should the Congress participate in such an event?” Rau added.

What's your reaction?
