NABARANGPUR: On the last day for filing nominations for Umerkote by-poll three candidates submitted papers to the returning officer on Saturday. They are former legislator and BJP candidate Dharmu Gond, Congress’ dummy Dhanuram Gond and Buti Bhotra of Kalinga National Front. Thousands of BJP supporters from Umerkote constituency accompanied Dharmu in a procession to the headquarter town of Nabarangpur where he filed the papers in the presence of State unit president Jual Oram, vice-president Ashok Sahu, Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra, former minister Sameer Dey, former MP Parsuram Majhi and Samir Mohanty.Joining the procession were a number of tribal troupes who played traditional music and performed folk dances.A total of six candidates have filed papers for the by-election. Official sources said dummy candidate of the Congress will drop out after scrutiny on Monday.
