CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Department (TNFRS) launched a book on Industrial Fire Safety and Emergency Response and safety posters in association with Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association, Ambattur and the Rotary Club of Ambattur on Wednesday. On the occasion Bholanath IPS, Director General of Police and Director TNFRS, Chennai said, “Building contractors get approval from officials and start construction without ensuring safety measures. What was at first a plan for a three-storeyed building as years pass becomes a multi-storeyed building. People who try to save money, after a few years witness its destruction.”Bholanath advised, “Don't wait for safety officers to ensure the safety of buildings, be ready and prepare yourself to face any disaster. In spite of all precautions and having the right equipment, disaster may still strike and it is the duty of the industries to instruct employees on how to face it and how to use the equipment.” He said citizens should be aware of advanced fire safety measures and keep themselves updated. There is no need for anybody to teach these things, we can get information on safety measures by browsing the Internet. Ashis Chatterjee IAS, Collector of Thiruvallur, said, “Nowadays there is a high standard of industrialisation in and around Chennai. People have to be more aware about safety measures and how to face natural calamities.” Regulations on paper, put up on company walls, should be put into practice; because at the end of the day it is the people's safety that matters. TNFRS should conduct frequent mock drills in all industries even if they don't request it, Ashis said. The book and poster were released by Bholanath and received by Ashis Chatterjee.
