KOCHI: It is good news for the BSNL in Kerala. As per the latest figures the BSNL has achieved a major milestone in Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in Kerala with new a customer base totaling 1.69 lakh. The state-run service provider has gained a total new customer base (Portin) of 1,69,397 customers while the total customers opted out (Portout) of BSNL is 58,075. With this the mobile service provider has a total of more than one lakh positive customers within a period of eight months. Of the total number of new customers 1,61,478 (which include 1,59,777 prepaid subscribers and 1,701 post paid) are confirmed while 7,919 (which include 7,855 prepaid subscribers and 64 post paid subscribers) are in the process of portin to BSNL.Similarly, a total of 58,075 subscribers are ported out of BSNL. Out of this 56,027 (including 54,308 prepaid and 1,719 postpaid) are confirmed to move out while 2,048 (including 2,043 prepaid and 5 postpaid) are in the process of opting out. Going by the district-wide statistics, Kannur has the maximum number of positive subscribers (51,480), while Ernakulam comes next with 30,221 subscribers. The figures of positive customer base in some other districts are as follows: Kottayam (11,629), Kozhikode (7,331), Thiruvananthapuram (5,539), Pathanamthitta (4,935) and Palakkad (3,772). In some other districts like Malappuram, there is a negative customer base of 4,017. Interestingly, the BSNL has maintained an edge over other service providers regarding the number of MNP subscribers only in Kerala. As per the figures till August 31, BSNL has gained a total of 61,590 connections after reducing the number of opted out subscribers while Airtel has gained 31,157 connections and Idea Spice 23,481 subscribers. Vodafone has made a gain of 9,811 connections. As per the new figures of Mobile Number Portability connections, the BSNL has gained substantial number of connections in other states like Jammu and Kashmir and Orissa. As per the nationwide MNP figures, the GSM connections of BSNL has suffered a total loss of 6,16,017.
