HUBLI: BJP national general secretary Dharmendra Pradhan praised Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa for his decision to halt farmland acquisition for steel plants in Gadag district. He, however, advocated for a balance between agricultural and industrial growth for creating a market and better price for farmers' produce.Speaking after inaugurating the two-day state BJP executive meet here at Gokul Garden, Pradhan cautioned the state government not to confront farmers since forcible acquisition of land was not BJP's policy anywhere in the country. Since industrialisation was vital for economic growth, he said, increase in spending capacity would create new markets.Increased demand in the market would in turn help agriculture growth and farmers would get a fair price for their produce. Therefore, the government should involve both industries and farmers for inclusive development, he said.Disapproving of the Yeddyurappa government's earlier confrontational attitude of acquiring land in Gadag and Mangalore, Pradhan said, "Yeddyurappa took the right decision before the situation went out of hand, responding positively to the appeal by farmers and religious heads."He, however, attacked the Opposition for its "slander campaign" against the state BJP government.Pradhan questioned AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi's plan to protest land acquisition in Karnataka when he "supported forcible land acquisition in Orissa".He dared the Congress-ruled states to reverse land acquisition process like the BJP government did in Karnataka. He reserved most part of his 45minute speech in counting failures of the Congressled UPA Government and said, the Centre has deluded the common man.
