Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samiti president Byreddi Rajasekhara Reddy will begin his padayatra from Ketavaram near Kurnool on Tuesday to press his demand for creation of a separate Rayalaseema state.
Rajasekhara Reddy, who was general secretary of the Telugu Desam, quit the membership of the party in protest against the letter written by TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu to the prime minister on the Telangana issue.
Accusing Naidu of mortgaging the interests of the Rayalaseema region to which he belonged, Rajasekahra Reddy resigned from the party and decided to take a headlong plunge into the movement for a separate Rayalaseema state.
Reddy told Express: “I have chosen Ketavaram to kick off my march as it was the place where the first script of a language was found in stone edicts thousands of years ago. My padayatra will be for 40 days and will end in Anantapur on Nov 10. I will cover all the Rayalaseema districts, trying to explain to the people the need for justice to the most backward region of the state which could be found only in creation of a state for it.”
