KOCHI: The CBI has filed a First Information Report (FIR) before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against former Kasargod SP Ramadas Pothan in connection with the police firing case.The offence alleged against Pothan is under Section 302 (Murder) of Indian Penal Code. The case was registered against Pothan in connection with the death of Mohammed Shafeeq, 23, an Indian Union Muslim League sympathiser in police firing on November 15, 2009 in Kasargod. The Kerala High Court had earlier ordered a CBI investigation while considering a petition filed by the father of the deceased. The court also directed the state government to pay `5 lakh as compensation to Shafeeq’s family.The allegation was that the police opened fire when violence broke out ahead of a reception arranged for the state leaders of the IUML in Kasargod town.
