BANGALORE: Appreciation kept pouring on noted playwright Chandrashekhar Kambar for being conferred with Jnanpith award, the country’s highest literary award.On Tuesday, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda called on Kambar at his residence and congratulated him on winning the award for the year 2009. Later, speaking to media, Gowda said that it was a matter of pride for all Kannadigas and he would thank Kambar for giving a reason to Kannadigas to celebrate.Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar was also present on the occasion.Congratulating Kambar on winning the award, former CM B S Yeddyurappa stated in a press release,“Kambar with his excellence in all forms of Kannada literature has brought glory to the state. My sincere congratulations to him on this achievement.”Meanwhile, Chairman of the Legislative Council D H Shankaramurthy complimented Chandrashekhar Kambar, who was selected for the prestigious Jnanpith Award this year for his immense contribution to the world of Indian literature.In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Shankaramurthy acknowledged that Kambar, one of the renowned scholars of the state, has brought a new dimension by blending the richness of folklore with the dialects of Northern Karnataka.He said that Kambar who excelled in every facet of literature, music and cinema has also effectively presented the negative impact of globalisation on the society and the conflict that had generated due to it.
