New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and Mongolpuri candidate Raj Kumar Chauhan hit out at Bharatiya Janata Party chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi saying she is a police officer and does not know politics.
"'Kiran Bedi dande ke zor par raaj karna janti hai, politics nai kar sakti' (Kiran Bedi knows only dictatorship and cannot do politics). One needs to be accommodating and diplomatic in politics," said Chauhan.
He also referred to Bedi's statement during her first meeting with BJP workers where she said, "Those who do not want to listen to me can leave the room."
Calling Bedi's inclusion into the BJP a mistake, Chauhan said, "Had Kiran Bedi came earlier, it would have benefited the Congress more. The downfall of the Congress started from Delhi and same will happen with BJP."
Chauhan is contesting against Rakhi Bidlan and BJP's Surjeet. He had won from Mongolpuri four times before losing the 2013 elections to Aam Aadmi Party's Rakhi Bidlan by 11,000 votes.
"The reason behind the defeat was AAP's campaign to give free water and electricity misled people especially poor and lower middle class," added Chauhan.
Targeting Bidlan, Chauhan said, "Her language is her biggest enemy and her family is involved in extorting money. Even party workers campaigning for her have come from outside Delhi."
Sounding confident that Congress tally will increase in the poll, he added that rallies addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have no effect.
