HYDERABAD: A dozen Congress legislators from Telangana joined opposition members in the Assembly on Tuesday and pressed for a separate Telangana state.Congress MLAs Pratap Reddy, Muthyam Reddy, K Lakshma Reddy, Praveen Kumar Reddy and others went near the well, while some others stood up from their seats and raised slogans demanding separate state. For the second day, the Telangana statehood issue rocked the state Assembly leading to two adjournments.Because of the pandemonium, the House was adjourned for the day without transacting any business. As soon as the session began at 9 am, over two dozen legislators belonging to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), Telangana Telugu Desam Forum and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with the newly elected MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy rushed to the Speaker’s podium with placards and raised slogans demanding that the House pass a resolution seeking creation of Telangana state. They also sought a discussion on the death of Bhojya Naik in Warangal two days ago.Speaker Nadendla Manohar rejected an adjournment motion moved by TRS, TDP, BJP and CPI in this regard and urged them to come in a different form. As the protesting member did not heed to the advice of the Speaker, amidst the slogan shouting, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings for 15 minutes.Congress MLAs from Telangana too joined the protest when the House reassembled after more than an hour. With the House in bedlam, the Speaker put for vote the demands of seven departments, including forests, industry, information technology and labour and adjourned the House for half an hour for the second time after the demands were approved by the House. When the House reassembled at 12.55 pm, opposition members rushed to the podium on the demand.Deputy speaker Bhatti Vikramarka appealed to the members to take their seats as chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy wanted to read out the oral statement on SC and ST sub-plan.The members went back to their seats and the chief minister made a brief oral statement on the sub-plan.Immediately after the speech, opposition members rushed to the podium again and some members led by independent member Janardhan Reddy and others went to the chief minister bench questioning him why he did not give a statement when the youth of Telangana were committing suicide.Suddenly, the deputy speaker adjourned the House for the day.Telangana MPs Reject Azad PleaHYDERABAD: AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Tuesday, made a futile attempt to persuade Telangana Congress MPs not to create trouble for the party in the Lok Sabha.Azad conferred with the MPs after they stalled the proceedings in the House for the second day on Tuesday. The MPs said Azad tried to convince them that they should cooperate with the government and that the party would address the Telangana issue soon. But the MPs made it clear to him that until the party comes out with an assurance that it would create Telangana state, they would continue to stall House proceedings.“People in Telangana region are losing faith in Congress because of the inordinate delay over the separate state issue,” Nagarkurnool MP Manda Jagannadham said.
