KOCHI: An open criticism made by Defence Minister A K Antony seems to have prodded the Congress leaders in the state into action as some of them have come up with certain earnest comments on the progress of the ongoing defence projects in the state. Inaugurating the Venduruthy bridge in Kochi on Saturday, A K Antony reminded the State Government to reciprocate the assistance given by the Defence Ministry. The unexpected remark from Antony had left his partymen on the dais, including the Chief Minister, guessing.“Probably, the mention must have been about the BrahMos project. We are not sure. However, we’ll look into it,” said Minister K Babu, who was also present at the function.Notably, delay in implementation of the BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Ltd, Chakkai, and the labour issues associated with the project have been creating headache for the government for a while. Though the second phase development of the project began in February 2009, it has reached nowhere.Meanwhile, Union Minister K V Thomas said such delays were a concern. “The Ezhimala Academy has some part of its construction yet to be completed. We need to have a policy framework for developmental initiatives. The land development in Vallarpadam can be taken as an example. There is a lot of land, both under government and private ownership at Vallarpadam. If that is developed and used for developmental initiatives, we could gain immensely,” the Union Minister added.
