CHENNAI: A special session of the the Tamil Nadu Assembly should be convened to debate the contentious Mullaiperiyar dam issue, PMK founder leader Dr S Ramadoss appealed on Tuesday. In a statement here, Ramadoss faulted Kerala for political posturing on the dam row. “Understanding that a verdict in TN’s favour is probable, Kerala is exerting political pressure. The bandh in Idukki district and ruckus in Parliament on the issue are cases in point. Kerala should be made answerable by the Centre,” he said.Charging Kerala with obstinacy and intimidation, the PMK leader said the neighbouring State was trying to build an illusion on the dam issue. “By trying to portray itself as the affected party, Kerala is actually trying through deceitful means to snatch the rights of Tamil Nadu in Mullaiperiyar which is the lifeline of many southern districts.”Accusing the Tamil Nadu government for not censuring Kerala for its high-handedness, Ramadoss said the State would lose its rights if it remained mute anymore.“A bandh should be held with State support in 5 districts irrigated by the Mullaiperiyar dam. A special Assembly session should be convened. A resolution urging the Centre to implement the Supreme Court’s order and another to condemn Kerala’s stance should be passed,” he urged.
