PUDUCHERRY: A day after a probe panel found prima facie evidence to prove that Puducherry education minister P M L Kalayanasundaram had used a proxy to write his SSLC exam, the minister was on Sunday summoned by the Villupuram District Crime Branch for questioning.The summons, asking Kalyanasundaram to appear for an inquiry at Villupuram, was handed over to Assembly speaker V Sabapathy at his chamber by a team led by deputy superintendent of police P Jayaraj. The team appraised him of the registering of cases against Kalyanasundaram. The summons was issued following a complaint by education department officials, after a high-level panel found prima facie evidence to prove the charges against the minister.Later, Sabapathy told journalists here that the police officials had sought Kalyanasundaram’s appearance for the inquiry at Villupuram on Monday.However, after the Speaker asked them to give time of three days to the minister, the police officials got in touch with higher officials and told the Speaker that Kalyanasundaram should appear for the inquiry on Tuesday.When asked if the education minister would continue in his post, Sabapathy said, “Enne Ethukku Vambukku azhakiren” (Why are you dragging me into trouble?).Meanwhile, DSP Jayaraj clarified that the police team was here to serve the summons to Kalayanasundaram and not to arrest him.The police team, which also consisted of inspectors Shakthivel and K Sankar, called on the Speaker in his chamber and were closeted with him for over half an hour. Although the team first went to the minister’s residence in Lawspet upon their arrival, they found the house locked. They then met SP (North) N T Sivadasan and sought his assistance.Interestingly, reporters and TV crew, who followed the Tamil Nadu police team to the Assembly building, found the back-entry point locked— a rather unusual sight.
