BANGALORE: The High Court on Tuesday ordered the Department of Food and Civil Supplies to submit a detailed report of action taken on fake below poverty lane (BPL) cards within two weeks.A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice Ashok B Hinchigeri observed that the court had given enough time to the department to submit the report.The BPL cards should be given to those who earn amonthly income of Rs 1,200 but the department had given it to LPG users, landlords and higher middle class people also.Medical Education Minister A Ramadas filed a writ petition in 2006. He contended that the Union Government is providing benefits and provisions at subsidised rates.He also stated in the petition that people who are availing benefits and procuring provisions at subsidised prices by securing BPL cards though they belong to higher income groups.Later, the government took time to seek instructions and suggest effective means to weed out people who have obtained fake BPL status. Further, the High Court ordered Commissioner of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies K H Govindaraj to submit a detailed report of the action taken on fake BPL cards within two weeks.
