Kolkata: The CPI(M) on Tuesday sought the Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon’s intervention over the Expenditure Observer’s comment against Belgachhia East assembly
constituency.
The party alleged that Expenditure Observer H Bheemashankar had amounted to serious violation of the EC code of conduct.
Bengal state secretary Biman Bose referred to a talk show, conducted by a private television channel in Kolkata on Tuesday evening.
Bose alleged that Bheemashankar violated the Election code of conduct by speaking to the media.
“By passing such remarks, Bheemashankar has been guilty of insulting the electorate of the constituency and has also shown disrespect towards previous Election Commissions who supported the assembly and parliamentary elections in West Bengal.”
In the show Bheemashankar was shown telling a press conference that the Belgachhia East constituency was the most notorious in Bengal where free and fair elections were never held.
Incidentally, CPI(M) heavyweight the state Transport and Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty had been seeking re-election from the Belgachhia East constituency, which goes to poll in the third phase of election on Thursday.
