CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday said that there has been a declining trend in the crime graph after the AIADMK government assumed office due to strong action taken. Replying to the discussion on the demands for grants for the police department in the State Assembly, the CM said since there were many power centres functioning during the DMK regime and hence, instead of rule of law, there was rule of anti-social elements then.  During the past 11 months of AIADMK rule, 2,053 people were detained under the Goondas Act and nine under the National Security Act. ‘’Smuggling of essential commodities has been curbed with an iron hand...,” she noted. Stoutly denying the charge of DMK leaders that the present government had been foisting land-grab cases against them, the CM said they were claiming so thinking that they could escape from the charges against them. Contrary to this state of affairs, due to the pro-active steps of the AIADMK government, people started filing complaints on land-grab charges.
