Cross-FIR Filed Against Gurugram Muslim Family Attacked by Mob

New Delhi: A week after a family was brutally thrashed by some miscreants in Gurgaon’s Dhumaspur Village, one of the accused has filed a complaint against the victims. Based on the complaint, the Gurugram Police has filed a cross FIR in the case.

The complainant, Rajkumar, was arrested by Gurgaon Police on March 27. At the time of arrest, he had some head injuries. Upon questioning, Rajkumar presented a different picture of the entire incident.

During questioning Rajkumar alleged that he was beaten up by the victims - Mohd Sajjid and his family who were playing on the ground, police said.

“He said he was going on a bike when a ball hit him. When he objected, he was beaten up by the men who were playing on the ground,” said a senior police officer.

According to the victim, however, the accused had allegedly asked them to go play cricket in Pakistan.

Rajkumar claimed he was hit on the head by the people who were on the field and was rescued by a few locals of his village - Naya Gaon. He was then taken to Civil Hospital, Sohna where he underwent treatment.

When he got to know that the incident had flared and the police were on a look out for him, he left the hospital without letting the hospital authority’s knowledge. Rajkumar had received information that some people attacked Mohd Sajjid’s house.

His claims were then verified by a team of police officials who checked the records of Civil Hospital, Sohna where his MLC was recorded on the same day as the incident - March 21.

“During verification, his claims were corroborated with the records in the hospital. Finding his claims to be true his complaint was then converted into an FIR,” explained the senior Gurgaon Police officer.

The FIR has been registered under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 34 (involvement of more than one persons).

A total of five people have been arrested in the case of brutally beating up Mohd Sajjid and his family. Mohd Sajjid had claimed that around 40 people forcibly entered his house and attacked them with dangerous weapons. Around six family members received injuries in hands, legs and neck.

After the incident, DCP Himanshu Garg had assured speedy investigation in the case. “The preliminary inquiry showed the involvement of both the sides in the fight,” Garg had said last week.

According to the police, a few youngsters were playing cricket when the ball hit a person. This led to a verbal altercation and was followed by one group thrashing the other, he said.

The attackers were reportedly armed with swords and sticks. Sajjid’s wife claimed the attackers also stole a chain, a pair of earrings, and Rs 25,000 in cash. After the incident, the family was scared of living in the same vicinity. They had apprehensions of the accused coming back to threaten them again.

The family had claimed the police had reached the house an hour after a call was made, with the neighbours refusing to help as well. The police, however, have refuted this stand.
