C'wealth: Dope case adjourned
The hearing on disgraced Indian weight lifters Tejinder Singh and Edwin Raju, who failed dope tests, was adjourned yet again.

Melbourne: The hearing on disgraced Indian weight lifters Tejinder Singh and Edwin Raju, who failed dope tests at the Commonwealth Games, was adjourned yet again, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport said that a decision was likely in the first half of next week.

The cases were postponed as the Indian officials wanted more time to gather information to fight the charges against the duo, CAS Secretary General Matthieu Reeb said.

"The Indian authorities requested more time to gather more information on the cases, and another 48 hours have been granted," Reeb said.

However, a final decision was likely by Tuesday or Wednesday, he said.

The CAS hearings had earlier been adjourned on Friday after the Indian chef-de-mission HJ Dora make his preliminary submissions.

Dora had represented the two tainted weightlifters who returned to India after the scandal broke out.

Dora, however refused to give any details of what transpired at the second hearing.

"We attended the hearing, and have been told not to make any statement to the media. Whatever has to be said, the CAS will say," he said.

Tejinder and Raju tested positive for the banned steroid Stanozolol in a pre-competition test here on March 11, a day after they arrived for the Games.

While Tejinder pulled out of the 85 kg competition at the last minute, Raju finished fourth in the 56 kg category.
