Day After Mumbai Hoarding Collapse, Civic Body Removes 3 Other Billboards From Ghatkopar

A day after a massive billboard collapsed in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area killing 14 people, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday demolished three other hoardings in the area, which were put up without due permission from the administration.

Tweeting about the same, Mumbai’s Municipal Corporation wrote, “A hoarding collapsed in the Chheda Nagar area of Ghatkopar. Today, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation demolished three other hoardings from the same location, which were erected without the due permission of municipal administration.”

At least 14 people have died and 74 were left injured after a massive billboard in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar collapsed on Monday evening due to heavy rain and thunderstorms in the city. Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the huge hoarding that collapsed in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar was reportedly under the scanner of civic authorities for the past year.

As per Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s guideline, billboards of a maximum of 40×40 feet are permitted to be installed. However, the one that collapsed was 120×120 feet.

After the incident, the BMC said in a statement stated that the agency owning the billboard in Ghatkopar did not have a permit from the BMC to put up the hoarding. An FIR against Bhavesh Bhide of Ego Media was registered under multiple sections of the IPC.

According to the police, a case has been registered against 51-year-old Bhinde and others for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other relevant sections of the IPC at Pant Nagar police station.
