BANGALORE: Fabrics and Accessories Trade Show (F&A Show) is where the creme de la creme of the textile value chain converge to network and source the entire range of textile materials for garmenting. The eighth edition of the F&A Show 2011 was inaugurated on June 3 at Gayatri Vihaar, Palace Grounds, at the hands of the chief guest, A P Joshi, textile commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The trade show aims at bringing together manufacturers and suppliers of apparel fabrics, trims, embellishments and services from across the industry. An important feature of the event is that the Government of India, Ministry of Textiles and Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner, Bangalore has associated with this edition of Fabric and Accessories Trade show under the banner of buyer seller meet; as a part of the integrated scheme of powerloom sector development of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Addressing the crowd at the inauguration, A P Joshi highlighted the different programmes started by the ministry of textiles like the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS). He explained, “The scheme was started in order to upgrade the technology in making textiles. The scheme looked at funding and giving a five percent reimbursement on the interest charged by financial institutions on the sanctioned projects. Upgradation would ordinarily mean induction of state-of-the-art or near-state-of-the-art technology. Technology levels are benchmarked in terms of specified machinery for each sector of the textile industry.” He further added, “People can benefit from this scheme upto 2012. Many have been encouraged through this scheme.”He also said that the small scale sectors like the cotton ginning and pressing sector and the jute sector form the major share of the industry and need to be encouraged. He also laid emphasis on the skill development projects for the apparel industry.
