Mumbai: Shobha De has tried out several professions—model, editor and writer—and now she is going to be a designer.
The princess of pulp is currently focussing her energies on a range of winter wear saris that she has herself designed. While actress Mahima Chaudhary has sportingly volunteered to model the line, De explains why a sari can work just as effectively as a little black number this festive season.
"It’s the festive season, so the timing is perfect. A cocktail saree would be great for the evening and i go according to the market. I have never believed in rules and formats, so I feel a sexy saree can do what a short black dress does," she says.
Insisting there's no reason to be surprised by her switch of vocation, the author-turned-designer says she's always been attached to the fashion business in some way or the other, and hence this natural progression.
“Well designing is no rocket science—I feel its completely compatible, as I have been attached with the fashion industry for long before as a model. It’s not like i am switching from surgery to architecture,” she says.
