CHENNAI: The Puducherry government was directed by the Madras High Court today to expedite the notification of the statutory Rules as per Sec 38 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.The First Bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam gave the direction on Monday, while disposing of a writ petition from P Joseph Victor Raj, convenor of Campaign Against Child Labour, TN and Puducherry.“Taking into consideration the urgency of the matter, we dispose of the writ petition with a direction to the Pondy government to notify the Rules as expeditiously as possible, preferably within three months,” the bench said. In his petition, Raj submitted that even though the Act came into force on April 1 last year, the Pondy government had not taken any steps to notify the statutory Rules Sec 38 of the Act.
