New Delhi: A Chandigarh-based doctor who had allegedly issued a fake medical certificate to one of the accused in the case related to Delhi model Jessica Lal's murder, Vikas Gill, surrendered before a court on Tuesday.
J S Bedi, who surrendered before an Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court, had on Monday informed the Delhi High Court (HC) that he would surrender before Delhi Police. He had also withdrawn his anticipatory bail application.
ACMM Kamini Lau sent Bedi to three days' police remand.
Gill had used the certificate issued by Bedi to get exemption from personal appearance in the trial of the murder case.
The ACMM had August 25 issued a non-bailable warrant against Bedi on an application by Delhi Police saying that he had been avoiding appearing for interrogation.
On a Delhi HC direction, Delhi Police registered the case against the doctor in April.
The doctor's certificate had come under doubt when police told the HC that Gill had left the country without permission of the court during the trial and has been absconding since.
Gill had been tried and acquitted along with eight accused in the case in February this year.
"Vikas Gill had left the country on October 9, 2004, without the permission of the trial court when the trial proceedings were pending," the standing counsel for Delhi police, Mukta Gupta, had told the HC.
