Election of Thennarasu upheld

CHENNAI:The Madras High Court has upheld the election of Thangam Thennarasu, DMK, from Tiruchuzhi Assembly constituency in the elections held in May last.Holding that the petition from Esakki Muthu of Kottur, belonging to Moovendhar Munnetra Kazhagam and contested under AIADMK’s Two Leaves symbol, was not in consonance with the provisions of the Representation of People Act and because of this defect, the petition was not maintainable, Justice K Venkataraman dismissed it even before it was numbered. Isakki alleged that Thennarasu misused his (then) position as minister and bribed the voters. He sought to declare the election of Thennarasu as null and void and for a direction to the EC to hold fresh polls to the constituency.
