BANGALORE: Urging the citizens to join the District Homeguards, R Ashok, Minister for Home and Transport, said that Homeguards are an important part of the police force that help in dealing with both natural and man-made disasters.Congratulating the department for working effectively in co-ordination with the police forces, he urged both men and women to join the department.Speaking at an event organised to launch a library facility for the district homeguards, he praised the work done by the department in handling disaster situations with skill and compassion.Echoing the Minister’s stand, MP Ananthkumar laid the foundation stone for the library facility at the district office in Rajajinagar.“Homeguards have an important duty in dealing with both man-made and natural disasters.And the department needs more people,” he added.Addressing B Amaranath, District Commandant, Homeguards, he emphasized the need to focus on measures to increase the homeguards contingent.The rationale behind launching a library facility was to equip the guards with a centre to develop their reading and knowledge skills.MP Anantkumar announced that in the days to come, there will be a computer centre and a health facility specially for the guards.The Government has already sanctioned Rs.10 lakhs for the library.Additionally, Rs15 lakhs will be sanctioned for the health centre.These additional facilities will enhance the working environment for these guards and will add to their skills
