HYDERABAD: Is former Naxalite Nayeemuddin behind the murder of Patolla Goverdhan Reddy? Investigators probing the ghastly murder of Goverdhan Reddy, founder of self-styled outfit, Revolutionary Patriotic Tigers (RPT), are probing it from this angle for two reasons: Goverdhan Reddy had earlier hatched a plan to eliminate Nayeem and rivalry arose between the two over land settlements.Sources associated with the investigation said that after being acquitted in the Paritala Ravi murder case three months ago, Goverdhan Reddy was reportedly into settling several land disputes in and around Cyberabad.Nayeem is also known to be involved in settling land disputes and investigators believe that rivalry over the settlements between them could have led to Reddy's murder. For the last few years Nayeemuddin's whereabouts have not been known as he used to shift his haven from place to place. Sources say that his movements have been traced to Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and some other states. It is widely believed that Nayeem has the tacit support of some police officials.Sometime ago Goverdhan Reddy had joined hands with notorious gangster Aziz Reddy, a close aide of gangster Chota Rajan, and allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate Nayeemuddin, who got wind of the plan. Goverdhan Reddy, who completed his degree but dropped out of postgraduate education, came from a rich agricultural family from Tandur in Rangareddy district. He worked for the radical student organisation, PDSU, but was expelled from it later. He then floated the Revolutionary Patriotic Tigers (RPT) and began targeting toddy contractors. Besides attacking them, he and his associates burnt down several trucks belonging to the contractors. As Goverdhan Reddy's contacts grew, he began sending parcel bombs to some financiers in the city to threaten them and collect protection money.Goverdhan Reddy is said to be distantly related to a late home minister whose wife is now holding a key portfolio in the Kiran Kumar Reddy government. Some six years ago, Goverdhan Reddy had allegedly killed one of the promoters of Viswas Global School, Chandrasekhar, at Saidabad here when another partner sought his help to settle a dispute between them.Reddy was arrested several times for various offences including murders, extortions. While in jail, he came in contact with several hardened criminals. He then came in contact with Aziz Reddy, who had made Hyderabad his base and extorted money from rich people in the city. Reddy hatched a plan with him to eliminate Nayeem as both felt that he was coming in the way of their activities, but Aziz, known to be a sharpshooter of the Chota Rajan gang, was killed in an encounter.Goverdhan Reddy then joined hands with Ali Bhai, said to be a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang. Both met in jail and planned to extort money from citybased businessmen. It was around this time that Reddy also met Maddelacheruvu Suri in jail and introduced his three associates to Suri. Using his contacts he acquired through Aziz Reddy, Goverdhan Reddy reportedly procured weapons from Mumbai for the assassination of TDP legislator Paritala Ravindra. Though Reddy was also arrested in connection with Ravi's murder, he was acquitted three months ago.
