VILLUPURAM: Petitions accusing former minister K Ponmudy of grabbing temple land for Surya Educational Institution were submitted to district collector C T Manimekalai and anti-land grabbing cell on Monday. As per the petition filed by R Mallika, daughter of Ranganatha Battacharyar of Vikravandi, Ponmudy and directors of Surya Educational Institution forcibly acquired 1.58 cent land belonging to Varadharaja Perumal Temple at Keezhakondhai.
The temple’s income is mainly based on revenue from its five acre and 92 cent land at Vikravandi and Keezhakondhai. Mallika claimed that of this 1.30 cent land of survey number 728 and 0.28 cent land of survey number 43 were grabbed for the institution.
In the petition, she alleged that her brother and temple trustee R Seenuvasan Battacharyar, who was already suffering from illness, died on June 28, 2008, due to immense mental-stress caused by the ex- minister. The petitioner sought action against revenue department officials, an officer of HR and CE Department and others who were involved in this land grabbing case.
