MALAPPURAM: CPM politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that factionalism should not be allowed in the party in the name of inner-party democracy. He said that factional feud in any party would affect its organisational strength and factionalism doesn’t win revolutions. He was delivering the inaugural address of the three-day CPM Malappuram district conference at Manjeri near here on Monday. Some external powers including few media are trying to establish that CPM is in the hands of factionalism. The party will show its strength and will prove that all these types of campaigns are against facts, he added. “Election of office-bearers is only a part of the party conferences while some are propagating that conferences means only elections,” he added.Kodiyeri admitted that the party couldn’t make inroads into the religious minorities in the state comparing to its influence among other sections. It had declared earlier that the protection of the rights of the minorities is the policy of the party.“Congress-led UDF Government in Kerala is spending most of its time in ‘sabotaging’ corruption and sex scandal cases registered against UDF leaders. Deliberate attempts are being made by the UDF Government to sabotage the previous LDF government’s development plans. Attempts are also being made to undermine action initiated in corruption cases besides the ice-cream sex parlour case,” he added. The LDF government had ordered a probe on the basis of revelations on the ice cream parlour case, but the UDF Government was trying to sabotage the enquiry, alleged Kodiyeri. CPM Central Committee member P K Sreemathy, and Secretariat member A K Balan also spoke.
