Family members of the hostages met Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan on Thursday.

New Delhi: The fate of six Indian sailors abducted by Somalian pirates almost 10 months ago off the Gulf of Aden is still uncertain. With only seven days to go for the 10-day deadline given by the pirates for the ransom in lieu of the sailors to end, the family members of the abducted people are a worried lot.

Family members of the hostages met Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan and appealed for the Government's intervention.

"The government is trying to persuade ship owners to talk to the pirates so that the hostages are released at the earliest," said Vasan.

"Government is persuading the ship owners to pay heed to the interest of the sailors," he said.

Defence Minister AK Antony said, "The government is expecting a solution to the hostage crisis soon. All agencies of the government have come together. We are doing everything possible to find a solution."

Antony hoped that the crisis would end soon.

When asked if the government would pay the ransom, the Defence Minister said, "That part, we are not handling."
