Three members of a family died apparently after being electrocuted in a guava orchard in South 24 Parganas’ Dhamua, police said, adding that the bodies were found on their own plot of land in Durlavpur village.
The family had installed electric fencing around their guava orchard to prevent thieves from entering. Preliminary investigation suggests that the trio died of electrocution. The deceased were a married couple and their 27-year-old son. They have been identified as Jagadish Biswas (54), his wife Shanti Biswas (50), and their son Manbesh (27).
Initially, none of their family members could be found, leading to a search operation. Later, their bodies were discovered by neighbors in the guava garden next to their house, and the police were immediately informed.
Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot. Additional Superintendent of Police (Zonal) Mithun Kumar Dey immediately went to the area to investigate the incident. During his investigation, he noticed the copper electric wire.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it is estimated that one person was electrocuted first by the copper wire, and the other two died while trying to save him. The Diamond Harbor District Police have started an investigation into the incident, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
