The state Assembly could not transact any business on the first day of the monsoon session on Monday with the TRS creating a ruckus demanding that a resolution be passed in the for formation of Telangana state.
Speaker Nadendla Manohar adjourned the House till Tuesday after repeated adjournments failed to bring order. As soon as the House assembled at 9 am, members of TRS, TDP, BJP and CPI rushed to the speaker’s podium holding placards and the national flag, demanding a discussion on the power crisis. A few TDP MLAs even brought lanterns into the House, which was seriously objected to by the speaker.
Opposition MLAs gave notices for adjournment motions _ TDP’s D Narendra Kumar on power crisis, YSRCP’s D.Krishna Das and MIM’s Akbaruddin Owaisi on fee reimbursement. TRS floor leader Etela Rajender and BJP’s E.Lakshminarayana demanded introduction of a resolution on Telangana. Nagam Janardhan Reddy (ind), G Mallesh (CPI) and Lakshminarayana (BJP) wanted the state to officially celebrate the Hyderabad Liberation Day. Speaker Nadendla Manohar disallowed all the notices.
They ignored the speaker’s repeated appeals to allow the House to take up the Question Hour as agreed upon at the BAC meeting the day before.
The TDP demanded a discussion on the power situation and the TRS, BJP and CPI a resolution on separate Telangana state. The YSRCP wanted a discussion on fee reimbursement. Amid the din, the speaker adjourned the House till 10 am.
As there was no change in the situation when the House re-assembled. the speaker postponed the Question Hour and called for circulation of a statement on the power situation. He adjourned the House again for half an hour with the opposition remaining adamant.
Later, the speaker announced that the government agreed to a short-duration discussion on power and tabled a note on it and sought opposition’s cooperation to take up the discussion.
His appeal failed to convince the opposition and he was forced to adjourn the House for another half an hour. There was no change in the mood of the opposition when the House re-assembled at about 10.40 am. Realising that proceedings were impossible, the speaker adjourned the House for the day.
