Although water has receded from villages of Tumudibandh block in Kandhamal district, villagers are getting panicky with forecast of more rains.

Flood water of Jhuri nullah entered houses in Budapada, Badasahi, Malipada and Bazarsahi following heavy rain on Thursday night.

With flood water submerging roads, Belaghar, Gumma and Jhiripani remained cut-off. The flood water also washed away a culvert, uprooted trees and electric pole near Matrugaon disrupting road communication.

Besides the two relief camps at Tumudibandh Block Colony UP School and Government UP School, three more were opened in the area on Friday.

As many as 1,500 people have taken shelter in all the five camps.

Zilla Parishad president Sanjukta Kanhar on Saturday reviewed the relief and rescue operations and interacted with the victims.

At Kotagarh area, communication was snapped between Kotagarh and Srirampur. In Barilingi village, a few houses collapsed and a hill caved in with water overflowing from the Kanu river.

Sources said villages like Sapeli, Saktipadar, Sirla of Kurtamgada, Parigada, Haripur blocks in Kotagarh are still under water.

While road communication was resumed in some areas on Saturday, it was hit from Kotagarh to Muniguda as a portion of the road caved in due to rainwater.

The final estimate of the loss is being worked out.
