Flooded roads plague city after brief spell

CHENNAI: Heavy rains lashed several parts of the city on Thursday leaving flooded streets in its wake. Areas like Santhome, Adyar, Vepery and Purasaiwalkam were flooded with rain water, and movement of traffic was affected.Vehicles moved at snail’s pace on Sterling Road in Nungambakkam, and many two-wheeler riders were seen pushing their motorbikes along the inundated stretch. Anna Nagar was no better, as resident Zarine Mohideen reported. “There is a lot of stagnant water in the area. Although the rain has stopped, the water has not still drained out from my street,” she said. .In Purasawalkam and Vepery, most of the roads and bylanes were flooded and motorists had to ride blindly, with no clue of what lied under the water. At the Marina beach, police ensured that no one was on the waterfront, and all visitors were advised to leave.
