Washington: Teenage American striker Freddy Adu is to train for two weeks with English Premier League leaders Manchester United, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old, once billed as the saviour of the US game, has been given permission by his club DC United and Major League Soccer to link up with United on November 18.

"I still don't know the details but, if it happens, it will be exciting," Adu was quoted as saying by the Washington Post.

DC United technical director Dave Kasper added: "This is something Freddy has wanted to do and we completely support him. It will be a good experience for him."

Ghana-born Adu will fly to England after attending a three-day training camp with the US under-20 squad in Florida.

The camp is scheduled to end on November 15 with a match against Guatemala.

Adu is the most experienced US under-20 player, having competed at the last two FIFA World Youth Championships.

Aged 16, he became the youngest player to represent the US senior team when he made his debut against Canada in a friendly in San Diego in January.

Ado has spent the past two seasons with Major League Soccer's DC United.
