CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Tiruvallur District Collector and the District Employment Officer to consider the claim of the son of a freedom fighter for appointment under the priority category.Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar gave the direction while disposing of a writ petition from K Selvam, whose father, who was receiving freedom fighter pension, died in 1978 and mother died in 2009. Selvam, belonging to ST community, had studied up to Class 10. He registered his name at the Tiruvallur District Employment Office. The registration was subsequently changed as priority for children of freedom fighters. As there was no response, he filed the present petition. The facts about the petitioner’s claim was not disputed and the number of vacancies had risen due to retirement and promotion in the post of basic servants, the judge pointed out, directing the Tiruvallur Collector and Employment Officer to consider the case of petitioner for appointment to the basic sevant post in any of the government establishments in the district, within eight weeks.
