Seven months after his appointment as Chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Gajendra Chauhan will be visiting the institute for the first time on Thursday to chair a meeting.
Students of the institute are planning to stage a protest. They have been against Chauhan's appointment, and even went on a hunger strike in 2015.
According to students, Chauhan is a BJP member and they feel he doesn't have the credentials to head the institute, calling his appointment a political one.
On Thursday, Chauhan will chair his first FTII Society meeting. "We will be finalising the governing council and then other agenda will be discussed," Chauhan said.
His appointment was followed by a series of protests by students and celebrated alumni of the Pune-based premier film institute. Students had even gone on an indefinite strike on 12 June as they questioned his professional credibility to lead the institute due to lack of "stature" and "vision".
