PARADIP: A student, appearing in supplementary High School Certificate (HSC) examination, was arrested for tearing the answer sheet after he was caught for malpractice here on Thursday. Amir Khan, a student of Rambhadeipur gram panchayat high school, was taking the examination at the S K Academy, Jagatsinghpur. During the examination, Amir was caught copying by the squad. However, he tried to swallow some paper notes that he hid in his pocket and tore the answer sheet. Later the centre superintendent informed the Jagatsinghpur police leading to his arrest. Around 12,000 students are taking the HSC supplementary examination and 308 Gana Sikhyaks are appearing in the Certified Teachers (CT) examination , that is being organised simultaneously. Meanwhile, the stringent measures to stop malpractice in the CT examination by the Mass Education Department has not gone down well with the Gana Sikhyaks. Sources said many of them have urged the centre superintendents to allow them to copy as failing in the examination would deprive them of permanent teacher jobs. At Sadeipur High School under Raghunathpur police limits, the squad booked five Gana Sikhyaks for malpractice on Wednesday. Protesting this, the Gana Sikhyaks detained the squad and asked them to “adopt a liberal attitude” towards them. Raghunathpur police led by IIC Padarbinda Tripathy had to rescue members of the squad. So far, 40 students and five Gana Sikhyaks have been booked for malpractice.
