The gap between Muslims and the advantaged sections of Indian society in the field of education has been widening since the 80s, according to a report presented at a seminar at Aligarh Muslim University.
In the paper presented today at the seminar on 'Traditional versus Modern education in Muslims', chairman of Institute of Objective Studies Mohammad Manzur Alam said "Muslims have the highest percentage of individuals who have never attended any school." This was "most prominent amongst Muslim OBC children in the age group of 6 to 14," he said.
However, he said that "some improvements have been recorded in certain spheres in recent years but it will take generations for the Muslim community to achieve present targets." The two-day seminar which was attended by academician from all over the country has called for the "implementation of the Sachar Committee recommendations."
