NUAPADA: Mystery shrouds the disappearance of the body of a girl and the role of Maoists, who had allegedly taken her hostage along with four others in Sunabeda in the district. While Maoists had since released three others, the fate of another hostage remained unknown even as the girl’s body was seen lying at Adar, about 200 metres from Sunabeda, till 8 on Friday morning.Sources said the Maoists had taken Rashmita Das (20), Sribascha Tiwari (30), Sonulal Barge (22), all of Sunabeda village, Manoj Sahu (23) of Barkot village hostage along with an unidentified youth from Khaprakhol on the afternoon of February 21. Sribascha and Sonulal besides the unidentified youth from Khaprakhol were reportedly released on February 23.While Rashmita’s body was spotted by visitors to the weekly haat in the morning, it allegedly went missing from the spot even though blood stains covered with fresh soil, chappals, broken hair pin and clip, broken bangle laid scattered at the spot. The Maoists had earlier killed Sonulal’s father Chandar Singh Barge, a former ward member in 2009. On the other hand, Rashmita worked at Sunabeda PHC and was staying in a quarter nearby. It is also said that Rashmita was appointed as a SPO ahead of the panchayat polls which could have earned the ire of the Maoists. Hinting at links between Rashmita’s father, Subal Das and Maoists, Nuapada SP Uma Shankar Das said police are investigating and efforts are on to trace the body.
