New Delhi: The Home Ministry has asked the Maharashtra government to take action against its anti-terrorism squad for making investigation details of Sunday’s ONGC installations terror probe public.
The chief of ATS, K P Raghuvanshi had revealed the name of the Pakistan handler who was in touch with the two terror suspects held in Mumbai on Sunday.
Sources say after this the handler, Bashir Khan alias “Chacha”, has gone off radar cutting a vital intelligence source.
According to the ATS, Karachi based Bashir Ahmad Khan Ain-ul-Haq Khan is believed to be the person who recruited and remote controlled the terror duo Riyaz and Latif.
Bashir is a member of Dawood Ibrahim's gang and features prominently in CBI's wanted list of suspects for his alleged role in planning and executing the 1993 serial bombings in Mumbai. He is also a key lieutenant of top Mafioso Mushtaq Abdul Razzak Memon
The CBI also suspects Bashir Khan played a key role in landing of explosive, arms and ammunitions at Dighi and Shekhadi believes that he participated in several meetings where Dawood Ibrahim planned the serial bombings. He is among those to have allegedly received combat training in Pakistan.
For years now, there has been consistent intelligence input on the growing links between the Dawood's gang in karachi and the Pakistan based jihadi groups. What started as an effort to protect Dawood's empire has now resulted in emergence of a jihadi movement drawn from India's cities.
In October 2003, the US Treasury Department found out that Dawood Ibrahim was financially supporting Islamic militant groups working against India, such as the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Last year, the US said it was the money received from Dawood that was used to fund the 7/11 train blasts
With the recent arrests, the role played by the 'D' company's crime network now becomes clearer. It's apparently not just cultivating hate sentiment but aslo providing financial and logistical assistance to terror operatives.
