Gowda gets dissident party MP sacked
M P Veerendra Kumar has threatened to get the ex-PM suspended from party for supporting the BJP in Karnataka.

New Delhi: The JD(S) on Thursday sacked its Lok Sabha member M P Veerendra Kumar from the party and as the leader of its parliamentary party.

"The party’s national president (former prime minister H D Deve Gowda) has suspended Veerendra Kumar from the primary membership of JD(S)," said a press release.

A resolution adopted at a meeting of the parliamentary party on Thursday announced that Kumar had been suspended.

Kumar was sacked after he and other JD(S) dissidents announced that at a national executive meeting they would Gowda sacked for supporting the “communal” alliance with the BJP in Karnataka. Godwa’s son, H D Kumaraswamy, leads the Karnataka government in alliance with the BJP.

Kumar was defiant and said dissident leaders would go ahead with the meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on December 22 to expel Gowda.

The parliamentary party’s resolution alleged that Kumar had campaigned for the Congress(I) candidate in the Chamundeshwari bye-election and abused Gowda.

Gowda, M A M Ramaswamy, M Shivanna and Rajshekhar Murthy (all MPs) attended the parliamentary party meeting.

"Joining hands with BJP in Karnataka was a step keep the party alive. We are still equidistant from both BJP and Congress and we are not part of the NDA," said a spokesperson.
