Spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Saturday said the Centre and the State government must take steps grant citizenship to Sri Lankan Tamils living in refugee camps here. “Sri Lankan Tamils living in India as refugees for more than 25-30 years is not something Tamil Nadu can be proud about,” he said.
“We have done that (giving citizenship) to a lot of Bangladeshis... and people from Nepal as well.... When that is the case, why can’t we give it to Tamils from Lanka?” the founder of The Art of Living said.
Asked for his take on the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant, he said, “I go with the opinion of Abdul Kalam.”
In response to a question whether he was behind the split between anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal, he said, “I have only made bridges and not tried to split anybody. Even now I am ready to build bridges between them.”
Earlier in the day, while addressing a large gathering of devotees at the Sri Ramachandra University grounds, he said spirituality gives an access card of sorts to find all-round wisdom.
“We humans have the capability to access an unlimited amount of knowledge but we are not able to do that because we are not spiritual in our outlook. It is only through the connection with our inner selves, we can attain knowledge,” he said.
He said that spirituality is what makes human beings authentic in actions and words towards each other.
“It brings out a self confidence that encourages entrepreneurship and a sense of belonging. The sense of belonging is important because it roots out corruption. Where it ends, corruption beings,” he added.
Halting his address to the gathering for an impromptu meditation session, Sri Sri said,“We need to shake that off and find a broader vision to attain spirituality.”
