KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday asked the External Affairs Ministry to consider whether the Indian consulate can make arrangements to verify the genuineness of visas issued by employers in West Asia, at least in the case of females. A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice C N Ramachandran Nair and Justice P S Gopinathan passed the order while considering the Sharjah sex racket case.“To prevent illegal employment of women for flesh trade in West Asia, the Indian consulate should consider conducting a detailed investigation about the genuineness of the employments, based on which visas are obtained for women trafficking,” the High C0urt court said. A petition in this regard was filed by Sheeja Azis who managed to escape from the clutches of the sex racket in the United Arab Emirates. The Pathanamthitta police had registered a case on the basis of Sheeja’s complaint in August 2007. The court had earlier directed Thiruvananthapuram range IG K Padmakumar to investigate this case.
